Our week started out with our first official Happy Go Luckie charter on Thursday, November 15. A lovely young couple chartered a half day fishing/snorkel trip. Nicole and Tyler from Florida went out with Luckie and tried their luck at some spear fishing and managed to get this invasive lionfish. Lionfish are not native to the waters of Belize and since their introduction they have been reproducing and growing with little predators to worry about and lots of reef fish to eat. As a result the lionfish have become a pest and a threat to the tropical reef fish.

On Saturday Nov, 17 the Sheldon family chartered a half day morning snorkel and island tour. They visited Tobacco Caye and Southwater Caye, did a little snorkeling and also visited Bird Caye which is one of two nesting sites in Belize for the Magnificent Frigate and Brown Footed Boobie birds. It is quite an interesting stop even if you dont fancy yourself a birder.

Sunday November, 18. Grant and Peggy went on a full day Happy Go Luckie charter to do some snorkeling and fishing. The weather was a little choppy that day so the snorkeling was not as good as it normally is but they managed to catch some fish. Here is Peggy with the baracuda she caught while trolling, nice one!

Check out Grant's grouper!! Grant caught this one on a hand line, must have been a good fight to get it in the boat. Hand line fishing is the traditional method of fishing for a lot of Belizeans and only requires a spool of fishing line, a hook and some bait. Apparently this grouper liked the shrimp that Grant put on his hook. Well done!

November 19th is Garifuna Settlement Day in Belize, a national holiday marking the time when the Garinagu settled in Belize after the British exiled them from the island of St Vincent. Here in Hopkins the villagers perform a re enactment of their arrival on Belize shores to mark the occasion. Luckie and Cheryl went to watch the performance and Luckie helped out by captaining one of the re enactment boats.

In the afternoon the Dunphy family chartered a Happy Go Luckie tour to go snorkeling and check out some of the islands. It turned out to be a beautiful day with good visibility and calm waters for excellent snorkeling.

Nick, Heather, Max and Sam from Pennsylvania were a fun group and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with.

We met Tyler and Nicole on our trip last November at JR/AB, the spear fishers in the first picture. We have since bought property in Hopkins. I e-mailed about some charters while we are down in November
